iPhone XS, Did Apple Do Enough?
Apple kicked off this week with a surprising key-note releasing the iPhone XS, But sis Apple does enough. The announcement was the release of not one, but three new iPhones including the iPhone XS.
Yes that’s right, by the end of November 2018, Apple will be boasting it’s a new range of iPhones. The new additions to the Apple ecosystem come in the form of the: iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and finally the iPhone XR.
Yes, we all can see the naming scheme is a bit odd but that’s not the point of this article. What we want to know is. Did Apple even do enough this year, or have they gotten lazy?
Overview of the iPhone XS
Firstly, we’ll talk about the specs of the iPhone. How the futures looking for this thing, physically and in terms of software.
Size & Weight
Last years iPhone X weighed in with specs that looked like this:
iPhone X – 143.6 x 70.9 x 7.7 mm (5.65 x 2.79 x 0.30 in) and 174g (6.14 oz)
However, this years model seems pretty similar, weighing in with this:
iPhone XS – 143.6 x 70.9 x 7.7 mm (5.65 x 2.79 x 0.30 in) and 177g (6.24 oz)
Yeah, basically the only difference is a few grams of weight here and there. With the XS weighing a mere 3 grams more than last years X. Hopefully it won’t upset too many people but the weight of the device isn’t the factor making most people angry. It’s the weight of the price tag this years model boasts!
This year iPhone XS is showing off the same display as last year. Coming in with a 5.8″ display, with a resolution of 2436 x 1125 and 458 PPI.
The real change is noticed when we take a look at the new contender, the iPhone XS Max. Hitting the market with an impressive 6.5″ display and a resolution of 2688 x 1242 with 458 PPI.
The few extra inches of the display doesn’t really sound like much, but when you think about how impressive media consumption on the X was last year, you can only imagine how immersive gaming and streaming will be on this year’s model.
A12 Processor Chip.
The A11 Fusion chip that Apple had shipped with last year’s model was an impressive bit of architecture to say the least. However, the A12 chip apple is pushing out this time around is expected to be nominally better. We haven’t seen any hard spec tests just yet simply because it’s still early days.
There isn’t much to add to this image, it’s the same as last year. Dual stereo speaker system with the standard volume buttons on the side, with the lighting port on the bottom end of the phone.
In the box.
This year is no different than the last. The same old stuff we’re all used to. A standard power with a lightning cable. The lighting earphones with the lighting to 3.5mm jack adapter. However, I think it’s a bit out of touch on Apple’s end not shipping the phone with a fast-charging capable power brick.
This is a bit of a punch to the gut for those buying the XS Max, especially when doing so could come with a price of £1,450.00
Is the iPhone XS worth it?
Well if you’re an Apple fan, you’re more than likely going to buy it or have already pre-ordered it. If you’re on the fence though you may be a bit hesitant considering the pricing of this year’s models. If you fall under this category though don’t worry! Apple is also releasing a less costly model, the iPhone XR.
